CATALYST A GO-GO!

Mad Molly's TEENY TINY ANALYSIS - a small list of movies from the 1960s wherein a "sore thumb" element is introduced into a party and the plot-point spinning results!

"Dr. Strangelove". Soviet Premier Kissoff is at a wild party when he gets a call from President Muffley in America with the ultimate party-pooping news of all time.

"Dr. Zhivago". At the Svetitsky Christmas ball, Lara crashes the party, shoots her seducer...and first attracts Zhivago's notice.

"Eye of the Devil". The movie opens with an elegant party in Paris that reveals the sore thumb to be the Marquis du Bellenac, who receives an unexpected visitor and suddenly is mysteriously compelled, with grim visage, to leave Paris and go to his country estate. Catherine, his wife, becomes the sore thumb when she journeys with her children to her husband's ancestral home.

"The Fearless Vampire Killers". Vampire hunters and sore thumbs Abronsius and Alfred try to rescue victim Sarah during Count Krolock's vampire ball. When in a stately group dance the partygoers advance toward a great mirror, the vampires view the reflections of their delectable morsel Sarah - with two other mortals.

"Georgy Girl". Georgy is an off-beat but lovable fifth wheel in swingin' sixties London who thus far has only attracted the desire of James, her father's wealthy boss. At James' birthday party, Georgy puts on an outrageous performance, following which James to take her aside and make an intimate business proposition to her.

"The Graduate". Benjamin Braddock, a sore thumb at his own party, gives Mrs. Robinson a lift home. The rest is cinematic history.

"Head". Mike is the sore thumb and the sore head after an elaborate scare hazing is perpetrated on him, leading up to his surprise birthday bash. As a frenetic go-go dance party swirls around him, Mike's face is seen moving, disbelieving, amongst the crowd and his friends, who are having a wild time. Mike launches a Scrooge-like rant after the number that sets things up for the final scenes.

"Horror of Party Beach". Tina's wild display at the first beach party with the leader of a biker gang makes her somewhat of an outcast - her boyfriend leaves her to her own devices and hooks up with the Nice Girl. Tina runs out to swim alone and gets killed by a toxic monster.

"Lolita". While chaperoning nymphet Lolita's high school dance, Humbert Humbert first lays eyes on his nemesis, Clare Quilty.

"Rosemary's Baby". A husband-and-wife "let's do a horizontal dance and make a baby" party turns into a living nightmare for her as she becomes the innocent victim of a diabolical plot.

"West Side Story". In the great musical paralleling the tragedy of "Romeo and Juliet", the Jets and the Sharks decide to mix things up a bit at the high school dance. Amidst the dancing and the horseplay, Tony and Maria, pawns of the rival gangs, fall in love at first sight.
